Over the past two years, Hudson residents have invested significantly in their residential properties. The Hudson Community Development department has been busy assisting Hudson citizens with developing their properties, enhancing the exterior appearance of their homes, building home additions, and adding decks and fences, among other improvements.
Year to date, there has been a 28% increase in the number of permit requests for home improvements. The number of permits for additions to homes are up 36%. Permits for decks has increased 55% and the number of permits for fences also has increased.
The Community Development department helps preserve and enhance Hudson's character and quality of life by administering the City's adopted development codes and regulations. The department’s work to move the permitting process to an online system a few years ago became invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents can apply for a permit, scan documents, and receive permit approval in the convenience of their own homes 24/7. With public buildings closed for a time last year, it was easy for citizens to apply for zoning permits online. Staff also was available by phone, which allowed the planning and zoning process to continue without delays or challenges during the pandemic. Residents can apply for a permit online at www.hudson.oh.us/ResidentialPermitting.
Community Development continues to work with citizens on home projects, and we encourage residents to reach out to the department for assistance with their exterior home improvements. Staff is continuing to add new technologies to enhance the process. Visit the Community Development web page at www.hudson.oh.us/Zoning.
