City Council Workshop Highlights from March 9, 2021

Council Highlights

HUDSON, OH (March 10, 2021) – At the March 9, 2021 City Council workshop, Council discussed possible options for a new public works facility and a community survey for downtown development (formerly Phase II). Here are the highlights:

Correspondence and Council Comments

  • Planning Commission: Council provided a summary of items before Planning Commission, including a dog kennel, and multi-family housing units off Darrow Road that is south of John Clark Lane and north of Barlow Road.

Discussion Items

  • Public Works Facility: For several years, Council has been considering constructing or purchasing a new public works facility that would allow the City to place its equipment and vehicles under one roof, rather than be housed outdoors as is currently the case. As requested at a previous meeting, staff presented options for the purchase of two existing buildings (one currently houses the Hudson Public Works) and one parcel on Georgetown Road to build a public works facility. It does not have the space to combine Hudson Public Power in that plan. Council asked staff to come back with a side-by-side comparison of the Georgetown option along with the option of purchasing and building a larger facility (to house both Public Works and Hudson Public Power) at Terex Road and Hudson Drive. The comparison would include both with and without HPP for the Terex Road property. Council eliminated the City Hall property as an option.
  • Community Survey for Downtown Development: Council met with the survey consultant to discuss how to move forward with the community survey for a vision of what residents want in a downtown development. The survey would be a random survey to 1600 homes to ensure a statistically relevant result. Council discussed what each of them views as the purpose of the survey and what results they are seeking. The consultant will provide a summary of what she learned from this meeting and will meet again with Council in mid-April.
  • Comprehensive Plan: The Comprehensive Plan is revisited every 10 years. Council discussed whether to begin the data information gathering process now for the next Plan process. Staff will begin the data gathering process, but Council does not wish to begin the process until later this year at the earliest. It was suggested that the Comprehensive Plan process look out 30 years or more, rather than the 10-year view that has previously been part of the process.
