[ARCHIVED] Hudson Police Department's Kiwanis Safety Town is Going Virtual

Safety Town Officer Jim

Hudson Police Department’s Kiwanis Safety Town is going virtual this year! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person Safety Town was cancelled for Summer 2020. The virtual format will still allow children to learn important safety lessons to prepare them for kindergarten this fall and beyond.

The same lessons from regular Safety Town will be available in video format at www.hudson.oh.us/SafetyTown beginning mid-July 2020. Parents can watch the videos with their child and complete the small homework assignments at the end of each lesson. Once all the lessons and homework are completed, the child will be sent a Certificate of Completion.

Children will learn the importance of memorizing their address and phone number; how to call 911; stranger danger; fire safety; bike safety; equipment that keeps you safe; and more.

“Though Safety Town looks a little different this year, we are excited to still be able to offer these important lessons to Hudson’s children,” said Hudson Police Chief Perry Tabak. “Hudson’s School Resource Officers Jim Curtin and Joe Giacomazza, Hudson’s Fire Educator Kevin Nelson, Hudson EMS Assistant Chief Scott Vargo, Hudson Community Television, and Hudson’s Communications Department did a great job putting together fun, informative video lessons that will prepare children for the coming school year.”

Officers Curtin and Giacomazza will also be offering in-person Safety Town during the summer of 2021. Those who would rather their children take the in-person classes next year will still be eligible to take the classes in 2021, even after finishing kindergarten. Additionally, participating in this year’s Virtual Safety Town will not exclude your child from participating in in-person Safety Town next year.

Watch for the Virtual Safety Town release date at www.hudson.oh.us/SafetyTown or on the City of Hudson’s social media channels in the coming weeks. Stay safe Hudson!
