Republic Services, Hudson’s preferred trash hauler, has seen a significant shift in solid waste and recycling flow. They are experiencing an increase in residential volumes, as well as an increase in contamination of recyclables. Beginning Monday, April 6, Republic Services will make the following changes to trash and recycling services in an effort to reduce the level of employee contact with potentially contaminated materials to help mitigate the risk of COVID-19 spread:
- Temporary Suspension of Recycling Collection - During this time, Republic Services will utilize recycle trucks to support the volume increases seen by the trash collection drivers. Residents can use their recycling container for overflow of trash volumes during this time. All recycling containers placed at the curb will be dumped by the trash trucks and the materials will be hauled to the landfill.
- Residential Trash Set-Out Will be Limited to "Cart Contents Only" - This means only the residential solid waste cart should be placed at the curb, unless you’re using your recycling container as an overflow bin for trash. Recycling containers placed at the curb will be dumped by the trash trucks and the materials will be hauled to the landfill.
- Temporary Suspension of Bulk Items Collection Services - This is a less critical service to run during the pandemic and will free up Republics resources and assets to focus on the priority of solid waste collection.
- Temporary Suspension of Yard Waste Collection - Much of this material can be composted or, at the very least, stored for a future date when it can be collected and properly disposed of.
These changes will go into effect on Monday, April 6 until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.
