[ARCHIVED] Council Reviews Upcoming Storm Water Improvements

Council Update

HUDSON, OH (February 27, 2020) – At the February 25, 2020 City Council Workshop, City Engineer Brad Kosco presented an update on the City of Hudson’s upcoming storm water projects that will provide more than $9 million in improvements to Hudson’s storm water system over the next five years. These storm water projects will provide better flood control, water quality, and long-term maintenance improvements to Hudson’s storm water system and will positively affect storm water management throughout the City.

Major projects included in these improvements are:

  • Barlow Community Center Lake and Dam Improvements and increased storm water storage (design 2020 & construction 2021)
  • Construction of a storm pond on Valley View at the Turnpike (construction 2020)
  • A new flood control culvert from Norfolk Southern Railroad along Morse Road (design 2020; construction 2021)
  • Owen Brown Street Bridge Replacement Project (design 2020; construction 2021)
  • A major culvert replacement on Sullivan Road (design 2021; construction 2022)
  • The study of additional storm water management at Ellsworth Meadows Golf Course (2022)
  • Summit County Sanitary Sewer “Area K” Project which includes the installation of storm collector systems (not yet scheduled)
  • Tinkers Creek Watershed Study (not yet scheduled)

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) partners with member communities in the Cuyahoga River watershed to address storm water-related problems. The City has partnered with the NEORSD on the upcoming major projects at Barlow Community Center Lakes and the Owen Brown Street Bridge Replacement Project.

In addition to major construction projects, the City of Hudson has an aggressive storm water maintenance program to continuously provide residents with the best storm water system possible. The maintenance program includes the care and inspection of 133 miles of storm sewers and culverts; more than 5,300 catch basins; and more than 100 miles of streams, ditches, and creeks.
