[ARCHIVED] Hudson Council Appoints Members to the 2020 Charter Review Commission

HUDSON, OH (January 22, 2020) – Every five years, as mandated in the City Charter, Hudson City Council appoints citizens 7 to 11 citizens (who must be qualified electors) to the Charter Review Commission. These members serve without compensation for a term ending the day of the next general election.

Twenty-six individuals applied for consideration for the Charter Review Commission. At the January 21 Council Meeting in a unanimous vote with one abstention, City Council appointed the following members to the 2020 Charter Review Commission:

  • Melissa Jones
  • Robert Kagler
  • Kerri Keller
  • Sherif Mansour
  • Lisa Radigan
  • David Schweighoefer
  • Brett Shriver
  • Allen Wass

Charter Review Commission Process

The Charter Review Commission is established every five years to review the Hudson City Charter, seek input from the public, and provide a report to City Council on possible changes to the Hudson Charter.

The Commission selects its own Chairperson and Secretary and adopts its own rules for the conduct of business. Any revisions and amendments recommended by the Commission must be submitted to Council not less than 120 days prior to the next general election.  Council will submit those recommended revisions and amendments to the voters at the next general election.

First Meeting Scheduled for February 5

What is the Hudson City Charter?

The Charter is the basic organizational document that defines the City organization, powers, functions, and essential procedures of government. It is the most important legal document of any municipality.

The original Charter became effective January 6, 1958. It was most recently amended on November 3, 2015. The Hudson City Charter can be viewed online here.
