Yesterday’s March winds brought down trees and power lines that kept our Hudson Public Power and City service crews out all day and night clearing roadways and keeping the lights on. To the best of our knowledge, all HPP customers now have electricity back on except one resident who must call a private contractor to do some work before we can turn on the electricity to that residence. We have been told there are 100 to 200 First Energy/Ohio Edison customers in Hudson who still do not have power. We have reached out to First Energy and are working to get permission to assist in getting the power back on to our residents.
Here are some photos and highlights from yesterday’s event.
- We received calls about at least 18 trees down, many that fell across power lines or roads.
- South Main Street was closed for a short time when a tree fell across the roadway. City crews were able to quickly move the tree to the side of the road. Stone Road was closed as we waited for First Energy to fix a power line that was dangling in the roadway.
- Three electric poles were broken off in the Barlow Hill, Ashbrook, and Valley View areas.
- A power outage at Regal Hudson Cinema 10 caused a heating and air conditioning failure which resulted in the equipment smoking. Emergency vehicles were called in, but there was no fire or emergency.
Crews were able to quickly address these issues yesterday and last night, and continue clean up today. Thank you for your patience as we continue to clean up Hudson.
