[ARCHIVED] Hudson Named a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community

velo

The League of American Bicyclists recognized Hudson with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community (BFCSM) award. Hudson was part of the largest application round in the BFC program’s 13 year history. With the announcement of 26 new and 77 renewing BFCs this year, Hudson joins a leading group of communities, in all 50 states, that are transforming our neighborhoods. There are now 404 communities currently recognized for their efforts to make biking better with a BFC award.

“We applaud these communities for making bicycling a safe and convenient option for transportation and recreation,” said Bill Nesper, Vice President of Programs at the League of American Bicyclists. “We are encouraged by the growing number of leaders who see bicycling as a way to build more vibrant, healthy, sustainable and connected communities and be a part of the solution to many complex challenges faced at both the community and national levels. We look forward to continuing to work with these communities as we move closer to our mission of creating a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.”

The Bronze BFC award recognizes Hudson’s commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies. The BFC program provides a benchmark for communities to evaluate these conditions and policies, while highlighting areas for improvement.

Pedal Hudson, Hudson’s bike advisory committee created by Leadership Hudson Class of 2015, submitted the application for Hudson to be considered for the Bicycle Friendly Community award.  The non-profit group has worked tirelessly to advance biking in the community and to achieve the bronze designation for the award by supporting existing community efforts and instituting new programs. In addition, Pedal Hudson created a Hudson Bike Map that highlights bike lanes, dedicated off road paths, mountain bike trails, suggested riding routes, and local resources to help and encourage bicyclists to “Pedal Hudson.”

“We are thrilled that the League of American Cyclists has recognized the collective bicycling efforts being accomplished by the community including the City, schools, Safe Routes Hudson, Hudson Velo Club, and many local organizations,” said Greg Hannan of Pedal Hudson. “We have had great support over the past year and plan to continue our efforts to make Hudson even more bicycle friendly.”

Hudson’s BFC report card and Bike Map can be found here.
