September is National Preparedness Month and focuses on the importance of making a plan with friends and family about what to do and how to communicate in the event of an emergency.
The first step is to make a family emergency communication plan. To get started, you should make sure all household members are able to receive alerts about an emergency from local officials.
Hudson residents are notified of emergency situations through the CodeRED Emergency Alert System, a high-speed telephone service. The system allows Hudson safety officials to send recorded messages to the entire community, or a specific area, within minutes. These messages will inform residents of the current situation and give instruction for action. It also will send text messages to cell phones that are registered in the system. The CodeRED system delivers messages to a live person, an answering machine, or voice mail to be sure you are adequately informed.
The City also used the Notify Me Alert Center to send out emergency information. Each member of your family should register their cell phones for both notification systems to make sure everyone will be informed if there is an emergency.
