It’s that time of year, when black bears annually travel through Hudson. A bear was spotted on a security camera on Steepleview Dr. on May 13. The bear is tagged, and according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, the bear is traveling through Hudson from Pennsylvania.
It is common for young black bears to travel great distances in search of new habitat, and they travel through Hudson every year without causing a problem. They usually move out of the area quickly. While they’re here, it’s best to bear-proof your yard to discourage them from hanging around.
Visit the Nuisance Animals/ Bear page of the City website for tips on bear-proofing your yard and what to do if you encounter a bear, and read the ODNR Division of Wildlife brochure entitled “Black Bears in the Buckeye State” to learn more.
