With the May 8 election only weeks away, the City has received questions about where and when to place election signs in the City.
Election signs are permitted throughout the City when placed on private property with the permission of the property owner. Signs may not be placed in the City-owned right-of-way, which is the area closest to the street curb, usually the tree lawn. Election signs also cannot be placed on City-owned property, including public greens or parks. While the length of the right-of-way varies by street, in general, signs should be placed at least 15 feet from the roadway to ensure that the signs are not in the City right-of-way.
There is a limit regarding how many square feet can be taken up by signs. The limit varies based on the District. All election signs must be removed within 7 days after the date of the election. Visit the Voting page for more information about election signs.
Does the City remove election signs? Signs that are illegally located in the City right-of-way will be moved back onto the homeowner’s private property or removed. Contact Hudson’s Community Development office at (330) 342-1790 with questions about rules regulating placement and/or size of signs.
