Prepare for Emergencies During Severe Weather Awareness Week

Do you have a plan in place for when severe weather hits? Knowing what to do before, during, and after an emergency can make all the difference when seconds count. Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 19-25, and is the perfect time to prepare severe weather plans with your family.

The spring and summer months bring the potential for severe weather such as thunder and lightning storms, flooding/flash flooding from heavy rains, tornadoes, and extreme heat. Visit the corresponding links to review the best ways to prepare for each type of severe weather.

Hudson, along with many cities across Ohio, will participate in the Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 22 at 9:50 a.m. The drill is on a weather-permitting basis and will not be performed if threatening weather exists. It is important to practice what you will do during severe weather incidents, such as tornadoes, before they happen. Make a point to practice different types of drills so you will be prepared if an emergency occurs.

It is equally important to ensure you will be notified of severe weather before it hits. Make sure to have several forms of notification set up in the event one fails to notify you. Sign up for Hudson’s CodeRed and Emergency Alert Notification systems to receive emails or texts in the event of severe weather; check your local weather station and City social media; and have a battery powered weather radio on hand in case the electricity goes out.
