Officer Involved Shooting Incident - December 4, 2016
At approximately 2:41 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2016, the Ohio Highway Patrol responded to a call reporting an erratic driver on the Ohio Turnpike at Mile Marker 185-7 westbound near the I-480 exit. Subsequently, the vehicle crashed and the driver fled into the nearby woods.
A search for the driver ensued which included the Ohio Highway Patrol, along with its aviation unit, and the Hudson Police Department.
The individual was located by a Hudson Police Officer near an access road off Hudson Aurora Road. A struggle ensued. Shots were fired. HPD officers on scene performed lifesaving measures on the suspect but he was deceased. The Hudson Police Officer was transported to Akron City Hospital for minor injuries and released. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Hudson Police Department requested assistance from the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in the officer-involved shooting. BCI’s Crime Scene Unit and Special Investigations Unit are assisting.
